Academic Kouyu Conversation Partners

XueZhang Mentor Program
This pilot program matches first-year College of Arts and Sciences students studying in China with a trained academic peer mentor who is attending SU classes on campus. XueZhang mentors and mentees meet virtually throughout the semester. Mentors help students learn about the SU experience and develop strategies for academic success in their SU courses. Mentors help mentees understand their syllabi and academic expectations, use effective time management, and make concrete study plans for online courses. This program has limited capacity. First-year students studying in China who would like to participate are encouraged to email CLASS@syr.edu.
Maximizing Online Learning in Mandarin
Meet one-on-one in Chinese for 60 minutes with a trained peer coach, who will help you construct a concrete plan for succeeding in your online coursework this spring. These sessions are designed to help you with any undergraduate course that includes an online component. You and your coach will choose how to spend your session time, based on your preferences. You might make a calendar to plan your study time, develop test-taking strategies, or brainstorm the most effective approach to homework and writing assignments.
Additional Support for New International Students
New first-year undergraduates from any country outside of the U.S. are encouraged to complete this short form to let CLASS know how we can help you succeed in your courses this semester.
